RUPS for UNIX UPS monitoring and controlling software and its associated special UPS cable continuously monitor the status of the utility AC power and the UPS battery condition.

The RUPS version of power management software checks the contact closure relay status in the UPS to notify the host computer when the AC source has failed and the UPS is using the battery.

If a prolonged power outage occurs, RUPS for UNIX software determines when the Low Battery signal has been detected. RUPS will then automatically save files and cause an orderly shutdown of application software and the operating system before the battery capacity has been exhausted.
